Why the West can’t be saved
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
(Chronicles 7:14)
Time and time again we hear in the alternative media voices that all recognize the fact that the West is being destroyed, and most of them understand that this is a direct consequence of America and the West turning away form God, but none of them really understands the essence of what this “turning back to God” really means.
As a result of centuries of corruption of the true Christianity in the West, the predominant idea of coming back to God has become taking matters in own hands, seeking own justice, restoring the rule of law and morality and then restoring God in his rightful place (like He was not a living, providential God but some sort of an idea that needs to be restored). It is this order of things that is wrong – the idea that one restores God by restoring order, morality and lawfulness first, forgetting that the law is God Himself, and by restoring God, order, lawfulness and morality are being restored as well.
The roots of this twisted ideology in the West are deep and became evident during the Age of Enlightenment of the 17th and 18th century, particularly through Deism. Deism is the belief that God is merely a watchmaker God who started the universe but is not involved in the affairs of humans and human history. One definition of Deism is that “there is no special providence, and no miracles or other divine interventions intrude upon the lawful natural order”. Therefore God is not being considered as being “the way” and “the law” as in Orthodoxy, but as being “the goal” or “the omega point” as in the Western doctrines. The “Omega Point” is the purported maximum level of complexity and consciousness (the goal) towards which some believe the universe is evolving. This idea is very deist in nature. The term “Omega Point” was coined by the French Jesuit Pierre Teilhard de Chardin. Blessed Seraphim Rose addresses these aspects in detail in his Orthodox Survival Course.
From this perverted understanding comes the whole idea of man fighting against the evil to restore God (the idea), rather than using God (the living) to fight against the evil and thus restore the law, or in other words the idea of restoring order in order to restore God, rather than restoring God and thus restoring the order. This wrong ideology is in fact the cornerstone on which America has been founded on and can be found in the doctrine of the “holy fathers” (founding fathers) of America. God in the Western ideology is just an idea towards which man evolves. This is in essence the idea behind the founding of America as well, uniting people around a general set of moral principles, religious in essence, but devoid of the living God. America is in fact the final product of centuries of “spiritual evolution” that originated in the Great Schism from Orthodoxy in 1054. Clearly the Bible paragraph quoted at the beginning of the article shows that there is no solution that does not involve God. “Without Me, You Can Do Nothing”, said Jesus (John 15:5).
An orthodox mind looking upon this situation with a humble hearth, can not fail to recognize that in its current state the West cannot be saved. The solution out of this is only through a genuine return to Orthodoxy and to the true God, and in doing so everything else shall be also restored as well, the order, the law and the morality. We all see the problems are so dire, as clearly presented in the following (must see!) interview with Anne Bernhardt, but what do we do about it? We contend organizing a “counter-revolution” is not exactly the right answer.
